We were tasked with transforming an outdated kitchen into a beautiful new and functional space for family gatherings in this Virginia home. Rich walnut and dark green cabinets were chosen to offset the cream-colored range. A curved cream- colored hood with a brass apron was designed to complement the range and its trim. Brass hardware and fixtures are used throughout. Glossy off-white Moroccan tiles reflect light and add texture to the backsplashes. The existing refrigerator was relocated to wall of tall cabinets that houses a coffee station. This cabinet features a lit space with a roll-out drawer and retractable doors that can be closed when not in use. The tall end cabinet which dies into an angled wall provides useful storage space for vases. Storage, display and seating were much improved by replacing an awkward two-level island. A gorgeous Luca di Luna quartzite counter top with a thick mitered edge sits above the walnut island with grooved panel details. A closet adjacent to the large kitchen table was removed. This provided space for a wine cooler to be recessed into the wall which is backed by a new bench seat and shelving in the adjacent laundry room. The cabinets next to the wine cooler store table linens, a docking drawer, and serving items. The dark green wall cabinets with glass doors and walnut backs and shelves, house glass ware. Thick walnut display shelves sit between the wall cabinets. Across from the laundry room, an underutilized butler’s pantry with cabinets on one side was redesigned into a spacious new L-shaped kitchen pantry. Storage and beauty abound in this new kitchen to be enjoyed for years to come.
