Kitchen

Nestled on the water, this guest house kitchen has been transformed from a cramped, dark, and inefficient space into an open, inviting, and highly functional gathering place. The original layout, hindered by a poorly placed peninsula that cut off flow from the living room, has been reimagined to create a seamless connection between the kitchen and the rest of the home. By removing thepeninsula, adding an island with seating that allows the guests to interact with both the kitchen and living room, and repositioning the sink against the wall, we opened up sightlines to the range and a stunning custom hood. The island top, crafted from flat grain plain sawn white oak, beautifully complements the hood apron, adding warmth and cohesion to the space. One of the unique design opportunities in this kitchen was working with the space beneath the stairwell, where the refrigerator is placed. Instead of letting it be an awkward or underutilized area, we embraced the slope, incorporating custom cabinetry that follows the lines of the stairs. To further enhance thecharacter and craftsmanship, we added decorative feet to the base of the cabinets, echoing classic furniture details and reinforcing the cottage-inspired aesthetic. To maintain the cottage-inspired, coastal charm, we incorporated light, airy finishes, including glass-front cabinets that offer both display opportunities and an open feel. Thoughtful custom inserts enhance functionality making this a dream kitchen for visitors and guests. The result is a kitchen that embraces its waterfront setting – casual, timeless, and effortlessly connected to both its surroundings and the people who gather within.
